Green Tea

A native of the rainy forests of Southest Asia. Green tea and black tea come from the same plant, but green tea is less processed so more of the original plant substances, such as polyphenols, survive in this herb. Choose from our range of green tea products to suit your individual requirements.

Green Tea

Green tea products are made from the leaves or buds of the Camellia sinensis plant, native to Southeast Asia. Holland & Barrett stock a wide range of green tea products, including tea bags, tea leaves, capsules, and ready-made drinks.

What is Green Tea?

Green tea comes from the same plant (Camellia sinensis) as black, and oolong tea. The difference between the varieties is the way in which they are processed. Green tea is made from unfermented leaves which are left to wither after being picked. This allows the juices and enzymes to remain intact. Black tea is cut after drying in order for the juices to oxidise.

Green tea goes through less processing than black tea, which is why it is thought to retain numerous beneficial properties.

The Green Tea Plant

The Camellia sinensis plant is native to the rainy forests in Southeast Asia, particularly in the Fujian Province. An abundance of fertile soil led the Fujian Province to become one of the nation's principal tea producing areas. Today, tea is now grown throughout much of Asia and some parts of Africa and the Middle East too.

Green Tea Uses

Tea is the second most widely consumed beverage in the world, only surpassed by water. Green tea has been enjoyed throughout the ages for a number of reasons, from hydration to physical wellbeing.

Catechins, a component of green tea, are thought to give it a slightly bitter taste. However, there are a range of teabags which combine green tea with other flavours to give it a sweeter taste. Try Green Tea and Orange, or Green Tea and Blackcurrant for a unique twist.
