Agnus Castus

Agnus Castus is an aromatic deciduous tree native to Greece and Italy. The tree itself grows to a height of twenty one feet and bears palm-shaped leaves and small, lilac flowers. In Ancient Greece and Rome the branches and leaves of the Agnus Castus - also known as the chaste tree - were used in religious ceremonies, and still are to this day in some parts of Italy. Rituals include throwing the blossom of the tree before monastery visitors to make a path, and using the various parts of the tree to decorate the body.
