Eating a vegan diet has never been so easy and delicious!
Not only are there tonnes of recipes for vegan cooking and baking, but there are also cakes, chocolates and sweets suitable for vegans - so you do not have to miss out on anything.
And here at Holland & Barrett, we have a great range of vegan sweets, vegan candy and mints for those days when your sweet tooth needs to be satisfied.
There are so many different types of sweets available that it would be impossible to detail exactly which sweets are vegan and which are not. There simply is no one size fits all.
However, there are a number of reasons why sweets might not be suitable for vegans to eat.
Some sweets contains ingredients which come from animals including gelatine, beeswax and carmine.
The good news is that there are now lots of plant-based alternative ingredients readily available and so there are lots of vegan sweets which you can try.
From chewy sweets to marshmallows and even old favourites such as pear drops, there are vegan sweets available to suit everyone.
Here are some of the best:
A childhood favourite for many, most liquorice is also suitable for vegans.
Panda All Natural Soft Liquorice is made with all natural colours and flavours and tastes amazing.
This vegan liquorice contains less that 0.5% fat and has no white sugar or preservatives.
Not only is it suitable for both vegetarians and vegans but it is also kosher too.
Panda liquorice is available in bars, cute bear-shaped pieces and a big bag which is perfect for sharing or for popping in the car for when you get peckish on long road trips.
But if traditional liquorice is not for you, this liquorice also comes in raspberry flavour which is made with delicious, real raspberries, for a mouth-watering flavour.
Vegan marshmallows are perfect for toasting on a bonfire, popping into hot chocolate or just as a sweet treat.
Freedom Mallows Vegetarian Marshmallows are free from both gluten and gelatine and do not contain any artificial colours.
They are suitable for both vegetarians and vegans and because they are so fluffy, they simply melt in your mouth!
Freedom Mallows come in vanilla and strawberry flavours as well as in mini sizes which make perfect dessert toppings. Or else pop them on top of your hot chocolate.
One type of sweet that is sometimes hard for vegans to find is gummy sweets and that is because they often contain gelatine which usually comes from pigs or cows.
The gelatine gives these sweets their jelly, chewy texture.
The Treat Kitchen Vegan Teddy Bears are vegan gummy bears which are also fat free. The only problem is that they are too cute to eat! Well, almost!
They come in a lovely, reusable, glass milk bottle and so make for a perfect gift or stocking filler for someone with a sweet tooth.
Cola bottles are another pic and mix favourite. Holland & Barrett Cola Bottles are vegan cola bottles which are derived from real fruit.
They are ideal for snacking, with a delicious cola flavour, and are shaped like a traditional glass cola bottle.
Pop a bag in your bag for when those sweet cravings hit!
If sweets are not really your thing, you might like munching on mints instead.
Not only are mints delicious, but they have other benefits too. Eating mints can help to freshen your breath temporarily,
Chewing sugar free gum such as Peppersmith Fine English Peppermint Chewing Gum can help to protect your teeth and gums from acid.
Acid is produced by plaque bacteria from the sugars in our food and drinks. This can dissolve the enamel and dentine of the tooth, causing cavities, tooth decay and gum disease.
Chewing vegan chewing gum helps to produce more saliva, which is a natural defence against the build-up of acid.
Brushing your teeth can prevent this but in between meals it is not always possible. And so popping a piece of sugar free vegan gum in your mouth for up to 20 minutes after eating or drinking is the next best thing.
As well as helping to clean teeth, chewing sugar free gum also helps to reduce bad breath and a dry mouth.
Peppersmith Fine English Peppermint Fresh Mints also contain xylitol, which helps to reduce plaque and tooth decay.
Pop these vegan mints in the car for a minty fresh hit wherever you go.
