Peppermint is a natural hybrid plant – a cross between water mint and spearmint - which was apparently first discovered in a field in England, way back in the 17th century.

What can peppermint oil be used for?

Peppermint is known for its strong scent and it has a wide variety of different uses.

It can be added into the kind of products we use every day, such as toothpaste, shower gel, mouthwash, soap and cosmetics.

Many find that peppermint has a soothing and refreshing element.

It can also be used in its natural form as leaves, infused, in tea, which is thought to help ease digestion, especially after a large dinner!

What are the benefits of peppermint oil?

Peppermint oil has a number of uses and it can help in many different ways.

Peppermint can help to ease the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and stomach cramps as well as helping to soothe tired muscles and relieve the effects of common colds.

Peppermint can also help promote hair growth and healthier looking skin. Its strong soothing aroma gives a wonderfully refreshing feeling.

The NHS suggests that one way to ease irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is through the use of peppermint oil.

IBS affects the digestive system, often resulting in bloating, diarrhea, cramps and constipation.

Research published by the British Medical Journal showed an overall 57% reduction with IBS symptoms in participants who took peppermint oil.

While peppermint oil is known to offer some relief to those suffering from IBS, it is always important to consult a professional first before using any remedies or supplements.

How can I use peppermint oil?

Take one to two capsules a day, along with a little water and do not exceed the stated dose.

There is also the option of peppermint tablets. Each one contains 17.2mg of peppermint oil and is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
