Go for Gold

Pure Gold Premium Select Manuka Honey takes the already powerful properties of Manuka honey and makes it deliciously decadent.

All Manuka honey is made by bees who are quite particular with their nectar and have a clear favourite when it comes to flowering plants: the Manuka bush of New Zealand. As well as being naturally soothing, Pure Gold Manuka honey has a thicker, creamier texture than regular runny honey.

What is Pure Gold Manuka honey?

Pure Gold Manuka honey has a distinct amber colouring. It is much thicker and creamier tasting than the clear, runny honeys you pick up in the supermarket, so you don’t have to use as much.

This honey is made by very picky bees indeed. They know what they like – the flowers of the Manuka bush (Leptospermum Scoparium) – and won’t settle for anything less.

The bees fly around the Manuka bushes during their flowering months (December to January) and gather nectar to bring back to the hive. And, as they don’t frequent any other flowering plants, Pure Gold Manuka honey is classed as ‘monofloral’.

What is the difference between ‘monofloral’ Manuka honey and ‘multifloral’ Manuka honey?

All genuine Manuka honey is put through vigorous testing by New Zealand Government-approved labs to make sure it’s the real deal. There are four naturally occurring chemicals and a specific DNA marker that all Manuka honeys should contain, whether they are mono- or multi- floral.

When Manuka honey is classified as monofloral, it means that the bees who made it only collected nectar from the Manuka bush, whereas multifloral honey can contain nectar from a few other flowering plants – as long as it is still predominantly from the Manuka bush. This means that monofloral honey needs to be put through further testing to ensure you’re getting a more premium product.

What are the benefits of Manuka honey?

The health benefits of Manuka honey are what make it unique. MGO, also known as Methylglyoxal, is made from DHA: a substance naturally present in the Manuka bush nectar which undergoes a Maillard reaction. You will find MGO ratings on all genuine Manuka honey products.

Is Manuka honey good for a cough?

Yes! Manuka honey can help relieve the symptoms of a common cold. Simply pop a spoonful into warm water or tea to soothe a sore throat, letting the MGO do its thing as you enjoy the indulgent taste. You can also just take it straight from the spoon or mix it into foods like Greek yoghurt, porridge, smoothies, cakes, or anything else you want to add a touch of sweetness to.

Pure Gold Manuka honey is known for its thick and creamy taste, so it’s an excellent natural substitute for refined sugar and regular runny honey. You won’t have to add half as much to get the sweetness you crave.

What are the health benefits of Manuka honey for your skin?

Not only can Manuka honey be good for your insides, it could also do wonders for you on the outside.
