It’s always time for tea
One of life’s simple pleasures, you just can’t beat a cup of tea. Even though black tea with milk and sugar may be the popular go-to, there’s so many different teas out there, and each type has different flavours.
Whether it’s lemon and ginger tea to put a spring in your step in the morning, invigorating green tea and mint for an afternoon pick-me-up, or calming camomile tea just before bed, there’s a tea for any time of day.
Open your taste buds up to a world of flavour with Holland & Barrett’s selection of fruit teas, green teas, herbal teas and slimming teas.
The history of tea
Although often thought of as the quintessential British drink, tea actual originates from China. It was first discovered around 4,000 years ago, but only reached our shores about 350 years ago. Even during World War One, the Government still made sure tea was affordable – it was that ingrained in our culture.
Nowadays, thanks to the humble tea bag and globalisation, we are not limited to our much-loved traditional cuppa. We can enjoy all sorts of tea from all over the world.
Which tea is for me?
Every tea is a hydrating, energising, naturally tasty alternative to sugary drinks, so you’re already winning with any tea.
Green tea is made from unfermented, steamed tea leaves. It gets its name from the green colour that is created when the leaves are brewed. To make the perfect cup, use hot, not boiling water, and only steep for the time given on the box, usually 2-3 minutes. Any longer and the taste can turn bitter.
White tea is made from the unopened buds and newest tea leaves of the Pekoe tea bush and is highly regarded. Processing is kept to a minimum with white tea, giving it a delicate and sweet flavour.
Oolong tea is made by oxidisation and is like both black and green tea.
Herbal teas can be found in abundance. They are all made in a very similar way: herbs, fruit, seeds and roots are simply steeped in hot water to release their delicious flavours and goodness. Some of our favourites are:
