What are the benefits of cacao powder?
What is Naturya cacao powder?
Cacao powder is made from fermented and sun-dried cacao pods, which are cleaned, sorted and shelled to leave cacao nibs. These potent little cacao nibs are then ground into a paste of which the butter is removed, leaving a high-quality raw cacao powder for us to enjoy!
Naturya cacao powder comes from a Fairtrade supplier in Africa who sources the finest quality cacao beans from the very best farming cooperatives around. These cacao beans go through a stringent fermentation process and are left out in the sun to dry out and lose some of their original bitterness.
When they get to the factory, the beans are washed and lightly toasted, allowing the flavour to develop and outer shell to loosen from the bean. This allows the nibs to be extracted, milled and have the cocoa butter pressed out of them. The result is a dense ‘cocoa cake’, which is ground into this delicious Naturya cacao powder. Rich in copper to support energy release. Source of protein.
How can I use cacao powder?
Sprinkle cacao powder onto your morning porridge for a ‘healthy chocolate’ kick, mix some into a superfood smoothie to make it even more nutritious, or combine with dates and agave nectar to make some energy balls. The cacao possibilities are endless!

Cacao powder is chocolate in its purest form. It comes from the beans of the same name, which grow in trees in equatorial regions around the world.
Cacao beans are used to make both cacao powder and cocoa powder.
The cacao beans are cleaned and shelled, leaving cacao nibs behind. These nibs are ground into a paste and the cacao butter is removed, leaving just the cacao powder.
Cacao powder has been used for centuries for its various nutritional benefits. It is also delicious, with a dark chocolate flavour.
You should not eat more than 40g (which is the equivalent of four to six heaped teaspoons) of raw cacao powder per day.
There are lots of ways in which you can add cacao powder to your diet.
Why not try it sprinkled over your overnight oats or mixed into a protein smoothie? You could even include it as an ingredient when making energy balls.
Cocoa and cacao are so similar in name that you might be forgiven for thinking that they are the same thing – or that perhaps we have made a spelling mistake!
Both of them come from the cacao bean, with the main difference between the two being how the bean is processed once it has been harvested.
Cocoa powder is highly processed, roasted at a higher temperature - and sometimes other ingredients are added to it, to reduce the bitterness.
By contrast, cacao powder is made using minimal processing and retains more of the nutritional benefits than cocoa powder.
Raw cacao powder is rich in magnesium and is, in fact, one of the best plant-based sources of the nutrient.
Magnesium supports the normal functioning of the nerves and muscles, as well as contributing to the production of energy within the body.
As well as magnesium, cacao powder also contains copper, zinc and protein.
Copper is an essential mineral and helps to support the normal functioning of the immune system, as well as the transport of iron around the body .
Zinc helps to support the normal functioning of the immune system and it is also used by the body to make proteins and DNA, which is the genetic material present in all the cells in the body.
Protein has a number of different jobs in the body. It makes up your hair, nails, bones and muscles, as well as giving your tissues and organs shape.
Protein in your diet helps with muscle maintenance and growth.
