How long do migraines last?

What does a migraine feel like?

A migraine usually feels very debilitating, with a throbbing or pulsing pain, which usually affects one side of the head.


Before a migraine starts, you may experience warning signs, or a migraine aura as it is known.


An aura may include flashes of light, blind spots or tingling on one side of the face or in your arms or legs.


As well as this, you might find it difficult to speak.


When an aura affects your vision, this is known as an ocular migraine or retinal migraine.


An aura can be a bit frightening if you have not experienced this before. But in most cases, they do not cause you any harm and they do not last for long.


You can also experience a migraine aura without headache, which is also known as a silent migraine.


This means that you may have specific migraine warning signs such as flashing lights but you do not go on to develop a headache.

What causes migraines?
