What is vitamin B?
Vitamin B, or vitamin B complex as it is also known, refers to the eight B vitamins. Vitamin B complex is also used to refer to a supplement which contains a range of B vitamins.
What are the benefits of taking a vitamin B complex?
A vitamin B complex helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue, as well as supporting the body’s normal energy yielding metabolism.
Holland & Barrett TR Busy B with C is a vitamin Bcomplex with added vitamin C. Vitamin C helps to support normal immunity.
How much vitamin B do I need each day?
Rather than just being one vitamin, vitamin B is actually a complex of eight different vitamins.
The eight B vitamins are:
The recommended daily amount for each one varies and can also depend on both your age and your gender.
For example, for niacin (or vitamin B3 as it is also known), the NHS recommends that men need 16.5mg and women need 13.2mg each day.
Whereas when it comes to vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), men aged between 19 and 64 need 1.4mg while women aged between 19 and 64 need 1.2mg each day.
If you eat a varied diet which includes meat, seafood, vegetables and dairy products then you should be able to get all the B vitamins your body needs each day from your food alone. If you don’t, then taking additional vitamin B supplements might be a good idea.
What is vitamin C?
Vitamin C is an essential vitamin which our bodies need for a number of different functions, including supporting normal immunity.
The human body can’t make or store vitamin C and therefore we need to get it from our diets each day. Taking an additional vitamin C supplement can also help you to reach your daily recommended intake.
Vitamin C is also known as ascorbic acid and it can be found in lots of different fruits and vegetables including oranges, lemons, kiwi fruits, grapefruit, peppers, strawberries and tomatoes.
What does vitamin C do?
Vitamin C helps to support the normal function of the body’s immune system, which is responsible for keeping us healthy.
How much vitamin C do I need each day?
The recommended daily intake of vitamin C for adults aged between 19 and 64 is 40mg per day. You may be able to get all the vitamin C you need through your diet if you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. However, if you don’t like eating these types of foods then it may be more of a challenge! Taking a supplement with added vitamin C can help you to top this up.
