The Testosterone Blood Test
Description:
This easy finger-prick blood test checks your levels of testosterone – a vital sex hormone made my both males and females.
In males, testosterone plays a key role in sex drive, fertility, mood and muscle mass.
Women produce testosterone too – but just in smaller amounts. If you’re female, testosterone helps your body maintain bone health, vaginal health, breast health and fertility.
What time should I take this test?
You should take your testosterone test first thing in the morning, between 7 and 10 a.m. This is when your testosterone levels are at their highest.
What's tested?
Total Testosterone levels in your blood.
Is it for me?
Yes, if you think you could have a testosterone imbalance.
In males, this can look like low libido, low energy, erectile dysfunction or loss of muscle mass.
In females, a testosterone imbalance can show up as vaginal dryness, a low sex drive, weight gain, acne, and depression and anxiety.
You can also take this test to track your testosterone following a change in exercise routine or diet, or if you’re taking testosterone replacement therapy.

It is important to note that blood tests alone are not a substitute for seeing a doctor, particularly if you have any symptoms. You should not make a diagnosis or start any treatment without a consultation with a doctor or suitably trained healthcare professional.
In very hot weather, it's vital to post your blood sample as close to your postbox collection times as possible.
Posting your sample close to collection times helps stop it from getting too hot in the postbox, which can increase the failure rate once it reaches our lab.
You can check your postbox collection times by visiting Royal Mail's services near you.
