Manuka Pharm Manuka Honey MGO 70

Manuka Pharm’s 100% genuine New Zealand multifloral manuka honey offers wide ranging benefits in every mouthful, thanks to an MGO of 70. Manuka honey is produced only in New Zealand, where keepers set up hives in wild areas filled with manuka bushes, or leptospermum scoparium.

This uncultivated, remote setting allows bees to feast on the hugely beneficial manuka plant, along with other native plants.

Used as a remedy by the native Maori people for over 4000 years, manuka honey has impressive antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. This gives it a variety of food and skincare uses.

FAQs

What is manuka honey?

Manuka honey is a special type of honey. It is made by bees gathering pollen from the manuka bush (or Leptospermum Scoparium to give it its Latin name) which then produce honey.

The manuka bush is native to New Zealand and beekeepers set up hives for the manuka honey bees in wild areas near to where the bushes grow.

Only honey that is made from the pollen on these bushes can be classed as real manuka honey.

Manuka honey has become increasingly popular in recent years.

How should I take manuka honey?

To get the most benefits from manuka honey, you should take one to two tablespoons of it each day.

You can add it to food, such as porridge or granola, spread it on your toast or you can take it straight off the spoon – yum!

Is manuka honey vegan?

Manuka honey is not vegan. This is because the bees make the honey naturally for themselves and not for humans to eat.

Therefore, the harvesting practices of honey do not fit with the Vegan Society’s definition of veganism.

Veganism seeks to exclude, wherever possible, not just cruelty to animals, but also exploitation of animals, which honey production may be seen as.

Is manuka honey better for you than normal honey?

When the manuka honey bees pollinate from the manuka bush, the honey they produce is more potent than the honey that you would usually get from bees.

This is because it contains a higher concentration of methylglyoxal (MGO).

Manuka honey has a strength measurement of MGO and this is marked on each product.

The higher the number, the higher the concentration of MGO. This manuka honey grading system is sometimes marked out on a UMF scale instead.

Manuka Pharm Manuka Honey MGO 70 500g has an MGO measurement of 70.

The flavour of manuka honey is similar to other honeys, but it has a more earthy flavour with botanical undertones.
