Description

Ovulation Progesterone Blood Test

  • Check whether you are ovulating normally.
  • Investigate why you are not conceiving.
  • Learn about your fertility status.

A laboratory blood test with simple at-home collection which to identify whether or not you have ovulated - an essential first step in any investigation into fertility.

For women planning a pregnancy, healthy levels of progesterone are important for conception. A progesterone test performed 7 days before your next period is due can identify whether or not you have ovulated as it will show whether your progesterone level was high enough for ovulation to have occurred. It is important to take this test 7 days before your next period is due. If you don't have a regular cycle then aim to take the test on the 21st day after the start of your last period.

Advisory information:

Let us know the date of the first day of your last period (if you have them), this lets our doctors interpret your test accurately. Take this test 7 days before your next period is due. If you don't have a regular cycle then aim to take the test on the 21st day after the start of your last period. It can be taken at anytime if you are not having periods. High dose biotin supplements can affect this test. Do not take biotin for 2 days prior to this test. If you are taking biotin for medical reasons (e.g. multiple sclerosis) you should discuss this with your doctor. Use of hormone containing pessaries could also potentially cause falsely elevated results on finger-prick samples. We recommend either arranging a venous sample, or taking care to avoid any finger used to handle pessaries. Medichecks tests are not a substitute for seeing your doctor, especially if you are experiencing symptoms. Medichecks doctors will interpret your results considering all the information you have provided to them, but will not diagnose, consult or provide any treatment. You will be advised to see your doctor for any necessary follow-up action.
