Traditional henna/herbs colouring
“Does what you would expect from a traditional henna and herbs colouring product; mixes relatively well and gives a nice dark colour. For it to work on grey hair though, note you have to apply classic red henna as a first step. Apply the red henna on washed, towel dried hair and leave for about 3 hours. Rinse well but no need to shampoo (I use a comb under the shower to help with rinsing and untangling). Towel dry and apply the dark brown mix (or any other mix you choose) as per packet instructions. I don’t cover my head for the second part as the indigo in the mix needs air to oxyde. If you can, rinse but don’t shampoo as the herbs will continue working. I apply coconut oil as a hair mask and shampoo the next day, unless I need to be able to show myself in public earlier ! Henna colouring is a lengthy and messy process (takes me most part of the day and I cover my bathroom in newspapers to avoid stains on walls and tiles), and may not give you the same uniform flawless coverage as chemical colouring (it’s simply trickier to apply so it’s easier to miss some of the hair). The differences in tone between coloured grey hair and the non grey hair is rightly what I find interesting, but that’s down to personal preferences. It’s also less agressive on hair and scalp in the long run.”

Good results and no damage!
“Before purchasing this product I did a lot of research on Henna. I used this method and the henna covered all my greys and gave a dark brown (almost black) rich colour which I was looking for as I’m naturally a dull dark brown and just wanted more pigment and grey coverage. I’ll put my method here for anyone trying for the first time. . Wash hair as normal and let dry but still slightly damp . Put an old towel around shoulders and neck, henna stains a lot . Mix the henna with hot water this activates the dye quickly (you don’t need to sit the bowl at room temperature for hours) I learnt the mixture doesn’t have to be warm when applied so take your time getting the consistency correct (like greek yoghurt) . Add 2 teaspoons of ground ginger to your mixture to reduce the smell! . Add 2 teaspoons of coconut oil (doesn’t affect absorption) but helps the application . Apply with a brush in sections like you would regular dye, henna is very sticky, and it took twice as long to apply as I thought it would but make sure the hair is completely saturated, add a little more water if its too sticky this doesn’t affect the dye. . Cover the saturated hair with cling film or a hair cap to keep warm and not dry out (or can damage hair) . Leave for 3.5 hours . After 3.5 hours I used only water and lots of conditioner to get most of the henna and tangles out keep rinsing until water runs clear (can take a while) no shampoo at this stage. . The henna still oxidises over the next 24 hours and develops colour so leave any residue remaining after conditioning and leave hair. The hair can feel very dry during this period but it does go back to normal following the next few days, this isn’t damage, its the hair structure and henna bonding. . I applied oil to my ends and used shampoo the next day like normal my hair felt softer than before!”

“Great colour, and completely natural so no bad reaction. Was severely allergic to Just For Men, which is toxic chemicals so this was a welcome relief. The only difference is time, this takes 3-4 hours whereas JFM was 5 minites. Definitely worth the effort though! 😀”
