In fact, so powerful are the known effects of vitamin D, that many national governments and health providers now recommend a vitamin D supplement for the entire population.

Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin

Produced in your skin as a natural reaction to sunlight, vitamin D is generally found in adequate levels in most people during the summer months.

However when the days draw in, most of us struggle to produce enough vitamin D and in fact, for some people - including the over 65s, pregnant and breastfeeding women, those with darker skin and people living in high rise cities or with reduced exposure to sunlight - the risk of a year-round deficiency exists.

This vitamin D supplement, containing D3, also known as cholecalciferol, rather than the less effective D2, or ergocalciferol, helps to reduce the risk of a vitamin D deficiency.
