You might squeeze a little on your salad or apply it as a natural cleaner around the house; but aside from these, lemon can be used in a multitude of ways. From treating blemishes to brightening dark patches, read on to discover some of the skin care benefits of this vitamin C-packed fruit.
Lemon can help reduce excess oils on spot-prone skin
Thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties, lemon is a well-known natural remedy used for soothing spots and helping to ward off blackheads. As the acids in the lemon juice may irritate sensitive skin in particular, dilute the juice with water before using a cotton pad to wipe it over your skin.
Lemon juice can help fade away dark spots and scars
Applied topically, lemon juice will work to gradually reduce the appearance of blemishes and acne scars. With a cotton pad, wipe fresh lemon juice onto any healed scars or dark patches. Rinse off with lukewarm water after five minutes and pat dry. If your skin is red, irritated or itchy afterwards, this treatment is not suitable for your skin. Otherwise, repeat this process everyday to help to get rid of the appearance of stubborn scars.
Lemon juice can lighten dark elbows
If you have dark patches on your elbows lemon is a quick and easy solution for more even skin. As the skin on our elbows and knees is constantly rubbed by clothing, it grows a thicker, protective layer of darker skin. Rubbing half a lemon onto your elbow can help to brighten the area. Repeat twice a week, leaving on for about 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. As lemon can be drying, follow with a moisturiser. Shop our Food & Drink range.
