5. Allergies to beauty products
Just like the rest of your skin, lips can respond badly to certain ingredients or you may even be allergic. Look out for swelling, itchiness or extreme dryness after you use a product on your lips. For any sudden swelling of the lips, mouth, throat or tongue, the NHS recommends seeking medical advice urgently as it could be a serious allergic reaction.
What you can do about it: avoid products with any ingredients that you know you respond badly to. If you’re not sure of the cause, eliminate all lip products and slowly introduce them back in one at a time. In the meantime, choose lip balms with minimal ingredients, which will hopefully reduce the chance of you experiencing a reaction. Seek urgent medical help if you experience sudden swelling of the lips and mouth area.6
