Who knew healthy could taste this good?! The chocolate flavour is so rich, I mix mine with water each morning and it’s delightful.

I have the watermelon one which tastes lovely just mixed with water. It only takes a few seconds to make it up which is perfect for grabbing & going. One scoop is all you need for one drink so the 300g tub will last a while.

I got this product to help increase my protein intake in my diet, something I know I don't eat enough of. I wanted to increase my protein as I embark on my fitness journey. Easy to add to foods/drinks & tastes great.

PE Nutrition also offer a range of different supplements, including whey protein powder, pre-workouts, gainers, lean protein powders and creatine powders.

Creatine is a compound which is naturally found in the body.

It is mainly produced in the liver and then transported to the cells of the muscles, through the blood. Creatine can also be obtained through the diet, by eating red meat and salmon.

The job of creatine is to help your muscles to produce energy when you are doing high intensity exercise or heavy lifting.

It helps to make adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which provide the energy for muscle contractions.

This beneficial effects of creatine are obtained with a daily intake of 3g.

Creatine can help you achieve bursts of speed and energy during training or sports, especially during successive short bouts of high intensity exercise such as sprinting, lifting weights or doing burpees.

Taking a creatine supplement can help you to gain muscle, strength and improve your performance during exercise.

Whey protein is a primary protein in dairy products. When cheese is made, whey is a by-product. It is the liquid part of the milk, which separates during the production of cheese.

This liquid is filtered, evaporated and then spray-dried, to turn it into whey protein powder, which can then be added to shakes, smoothies and even porridge oats.

Whey provides a lot of the essential amino acids which the body needs to carry out some of its functions.

Amino acids make proteins in the body, which are also known as the building blocks of the body. They help make tendons, organs, hormones, enzymes, and neurotransmitters.

As well as its nutritional value, whey protein also helps to support muscle growth and maintenance, especially when coupled with exercise and strength training.

Protein may also help to keep you feeling fuller for longer and whey protein is more satiating than some other types of protein.

This can also be really helpful if you are trying to lose weight, as it will lessen the chances of you reaching for the snack cupboard or overeating when it comes to mealtimes.

Pre-workout supplements, or pre-workouts, are supplements which are designed to help support energy levels and performance, as well as increasing focus.

They do exactly what they say on the tin: a supplement to be taken before you work out.

Pre-workouts contain amino acids including BCAAs, taurine and caffeine. They also contain vitamins C, B6 and B12 which help  contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism as well as the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

BCAAs are branched chained amino acids which cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained through your diet.

If you are doing intense training, then you may benefit from extra BCAAs which can be obtained from supplements.

Pre-workouts are designed to help you smash your workouts, even when you might not feel like it!

PE Nutrition, from Holland & Barrett, offers a range of products to help with muscle growth,  maintenance and athletic performance.

Adding a supplement to your daily routine can really help to maximise your workouts, getting the most out of the work you put in.

PE Nutrition’s products include whey protein powders, gainers and creatine powders with 100% natural flavourings.

So whether you like your supplements pre-workout or post-workout, there is something to suit you.

And better still, the range is free from ACE-K (an artificial sweetener) plus the packaging is widely recyclable, meaning that it can be recycled by over 75% of national authorities in the UK.

    What is protein?

Protein is a macronutrient composed of amino acids, which our body uses to build muscle mass.

Sources of protein include animal products such as red meat, fish and poultry, as well as vegan sources such as nuts and legumes.

Consuming protein may also help to keep you feeling fuller for longer and help prevent you from unhealthy snacking or eating too many calories, when it is time for dinner.

    How much protein is enough?

Your body needs to consume a certain amount of protein just to get through day to day activities, even if you are sitting at a desk all day!

When you exercise, you need to increase the amount of protein you are consuming, in order to repair your muscles.

It is recommended that you consumer 0.75g of protein for every kilogram you weigh on a normal day. You will need to increase this in line with the amount of exercise that you do.

Which PE Nutrition product is right for me?

The type of supplement that will work best for you will really depend on your lifestyle, exercise routine and goals.

We have put together this short guide to help you choose the one that will suit you best:

    Whey Protein Powder

Whey protein powder comes from milk. It is made from the liquid by-product of the cheese-making process.

PE Nutrition’s Simply Whey contains premium whey, with 17g of protein per serving and is available in chocolate, vanilla, natural, strawberry and banana flavours.

You can mix whey protein in water, milk or a vegan milk alternative such as oat milk, to make a shake. Or else add fruit, to make a tasty smoothie.

Whey protein powder can be consumed after workouts or as a meal replacement.

For optimum results, ensure that you consume 1-3 servings of your whey protein per day.

    Performance gainers

If you are looking to add muscle mass, then a weight gainer could be the right supplement for you.

This is a high calorie protein powder, which provides protein and carbohydrates to help promote weight gain.

PE Nutrition Performance Gainer is a convenient way to add extra calories to your diet. It contains both fast acting, simple carbohydrates in the form of fructose as well as slow releasing, complex carbohydrates in the form of oats, to supply a constant release of energy.

This gainer comes in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours.

Mass gainers should be consumed a few hours before your workout and one our your workout if you are following a training regimen. For a weight gain plan try 1-2 shakes per day.

    BCAA powders

BCAAs (or Branched Chained Amino Acids) are three essential acids which are important for muscles but cannot be produced by the body.

If you are undergoing intense training, then you may benefit from the support that these powders can provide.

PE Nutrition’s BCAA powders come in two fabulously fruity flavours: fruit punch and strawberry-watermelon.

PE Nutrition’s Pre-Workout supplements contain a combination of amino acids, taurine, caffeine and vitamins which are specially formulated to help you get through your workout, even when you might feel like that you don’t have the energy to!

As the name would suggest, pre-workout supplements should be consumed prior to your workout.

PE Nutrition’s pre-workouts come in fruit punch and strawberry-watermelon flavours.

    Creatine powders

Creatine is found naturally in muscle cells and helps your muscles to produce energy when you are doing high intensity exercise such as HIIT workouts or weights.

Creatine powders can help to support this, supporting your exercise routine.

Creatine can be taken before your workout, after your workout or daily, in order to build up creatine stores in the muscles.
