What is Promensil?

Promensil is a food supplement containing standardised Red Clover, the richest source of isoflavones (plant oestrogen) to help you stay comfortable during and after menopause.

What is the history of Promensil?

Promensil became available in the UK in 1998. Promensil was developed over 20 years ago and has undergone over 15 years of scientific research, resulting in 18 studies, carried out worldwide on over 1,000 women going through menopause. Results of these studies have been published in scientific journals.

What is Red Clover?

Red clover (trifolium pratense) is a legume or pulse commonly seen growing in the fields and hedgerows across the UK. Other examples of legumes include chickpeas, lentils and soybeans. Red clover is accepted as a human food throughout the world.

What is Promensil for?

Promensil is for women who are experiencing the menopause helping with:

  • general health and well-being during and after the menopause
  • beneficial for firmness of bones
  • improves function of the heart, cardiovascular health and strengthens blood vessels

How does Promensil work?

Promensil is a dietary supplement based on red clover isoflavones (phytoestrogens) specifically developed to help women to support good health during the menopause naturally. Phytoestrogens are derived from naturally occurring compounds (such as isoflavones) that have oestrogenic activity. They have a similar chemical structure to oestrogen and bind to the oestrogen receptors, acting like hormone regulators. Studies have confirmed that diets rich in Phytoestrogens can help women maintain their health especially during the time of menopause.

What does Promensil contain?

Each tablet contains a standardised 40mg or 80mg of four isoflavones: genistein, daidzein, formononetin and biochanin A sourced from red clover (Trifolium pratense). These red clover isoflavones are naturally occurring phytoestrogens or plant oestrogens which are NOT chemically synthesized. Promensil is free from sugar, yeast, milk derivatives, wheat and corn starch, gluten, preservatives, artificial colours and flavours.

How should I take Promensil?

It is recommended that 1 to 2 Promensil tablets are taken daily with food depending on symptoms and which Promensil product you are taking.

Is there anything that may stop me getting the most out of Promensil?

Antibiotics may disrupt your ‘friendly’ gut bacteria and hence reduce the absorption of isoflavones from the gut. There is the possibility that the absorption of isoflavones may also be reduced by certain stomach remedies, such as H2 antagonists and proton pump inhibitors.

Can I use Promensil if I’m still getting regular monthly periods?

Yes, given that each tablet of Promensil contains 40mg of isoflavones which is equivalent to consuming two or three legume-based meals in the diet every day. Around 40mg of isoflavones per day is the daily amount that men and women in Latin America and Asia are eating in their diet every day throughout life.

How long should I take Promensil for?

We typically recommend that Promensil should be used for at least 8-12 weeks to feel the full benefits. However, many women report benefits of taking Promensil after the first 2-4 weeks. Thereafter, take Promensil daily to maintain benefits.

What is the difference between Promensil and other red clover products and between red clover isoflavones and soy isoflavones?

Not all red clover products are the same. The standardisation process used in the manufacture of Promensil ensures that each tablet in every pack supplies 40mg or 80mg of isoflavones - the level that is consumed in a typical legume based diet eaten in Asia or Japan, for example.

Red clover and soya are both legumes and belong to the same family of plants. The main difference is that red clover contains four active isoflavones whereas soya only has two.

The 4 important natural plant oestrogens Red Clover isoflavones Soya isoflavones

Red clover isoflavones have better bioavailability, take less time to reach maximum concentration in the body and keep maximum concentration for longer, compared to soya isoflavones.

When is Promensil unsuitable?

Promensil is not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation. The product is not recommended for use by children. Use only as directed. If you need further information please call the PharmaCare Europe on 01403 280 860 or talk to your healthcare professional.

What is Promensil Double Strength?

Promensil Double Strength is designed as a starter dose for women who would benefit from extra dietary support. With twice the level of red clover isoflavones, Promensil Menopause Double Strength offers a double dose (80mg) in the convenience of one small tablet.
