Delicious gingerbread decorations for your tree

No Christmas tree would be complete without decorations.  That’s why we’ve come up with this delicious and simple recipe to make edible gingerbread you can easily hang on your tree. You can decorate or shape them in any way you like, but beware, these treats taste so good, your tree might look a bit bare come Christmas day. Ingredients Makes approx. 20

• 350g plain flour
• 100g butter
• 175g brown sugar
• 1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
• 1 egg
• 4 tbsp of golden syrup
• 1 tsp of ground ginger
• 1 tsp of ground cinnamon

1. Preheat the oven to 190°C/gas mark 5
2. Grab a large mixing bowl and add the flour, ginger, cinnamon and soda. Add the butter and rub it all together.
3. To the mix add the sugar, syrup and egg. Stir until you’ve formed firm dough.
4. Throw some flour on your surface and roll out the dough to about 5mm thick. Using whatever Christmas themed cutter you have, cut the dough into shapes. Use a straw to cut a small hole in the top of your gingerbreads so they can be hung up.
5. If you don’t have any Christmas themed cutters, don’t worry. Round ones make great gingerbread baubles, puddings and Santas.
6. Place a sheet of baking paper on a tray and then evenly space out your gingerbread decorations. Place the tray into the fridge for 15min. This helps the decorations keep shape during baking.
7.  Take the tray out of the fridge and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
8. Remove the tray from the oven and place the decorations on a wire rack to cool.
9. Once cooled, decorate your gingerbreads in any way you like. We recommend using icing sugar, sprinkles and toppings to really make your decorations stand out on your tree.
