What does Manuka honey mean?
Manuka honey’s uniqueness lies in its impressive DHA levels. DHA is a chemical produced naturally by the mighty Manuka bush, which gets converted into MGO (methylglyoxal) by the Maillard reaction in the honey-making process. Manuka honey contains DHA because the bees who make it predominantly collect nectar from the Manuka bushes of New Zealand to make their honey.
Now, you may be thinking how do we know that the bees visited the Manuka bushes? At Manuka Pharm, they don’t spend their lives following around the fuzzy little things to see where they collect their honey, they rely on science to do the detective work. For honey to be classed as Manuka, scientists in New Zealand-approved labs test each and every batch of Manuka honey to see if it contains the four chemical markers and MGO levels that make it authentically Manuka.
