This blood pregnancy test measures the amount of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in the blood to give either a positive or negative pregnancy result. This test is very sensitive and can detect even very low levels of hCG, possibly giving a positive result earlier than an over-the-counter urine test (about six to eight days after you ovulate). A negative result does not necessarily mean that you are not pregnant. A repeat test is recommended if your period has not arrived after another 3 days. This test can also be used to monitor how well your pregnancy is progressing. High levels of hCG in the blood can also indicate a multiple birth.
