Egmont Honey Manuka Honey MGO 70+ 250g
By Egmont HoneyEgmont’s hives are situated in remote parts of the Taranaki forest, where our bee’s live un-disturbed and free to roam. This results in some of the purest and cleanest forms of Manuka honey.
All of Egmont’s honey goes through rigorous testing protocols, to ensure its quality and to determine the level of methylglyoxal (MGO) in a batch. The level of MGO determines the grade and potency of the Manuka honey. Therefore, you can rest assured that when we say our honey is high quality, it's nothing less.

Manuka honey is a type of honey which comes from New Zealand. Here, bees pollinate the manuka bush and honey is produced from this.
Manuka honey has been used as a traditional medicine for years by indigenous New Zealanders. They would use the honey on wounds for healing, as well as using manuka honey to help ease coughs and colds.
Manuka honey can only be classed as such if it contains honey predominantly made from the manuka bush.
It must undergo stringent scientific tests before leaving New Zealand, to determine its origin. Egmont manuka honey has been tested and can be traced right from hive to home.
Manuka honey may be more expensive that traditional honeys, especially those which can be found in the supermarket.
This is because it is very rare since it can only be classed as true manuka honey if it comes predominantly from the manuka bush in New Zealand.
Other honeys can come from a variety of plants, rather than one specific plant.
Although all honeys have some health benefits, it is thought that manuka honey is even more beneficial.
Manuka honey is thought to offer benefits thanks to its antibacterial properties. It is also considered bacterial resistant, which means that bacteria does not build up a resistance to it, unlike some medications.
Its active ingredient, methylglyoxal, is thought to be responsible for these benefits.
Manuka honey is particularly useful in offering relief from a sore throat. As soon as you feel one coming on, mix a spoonful of manuka honey with some warm water to help soothe the throat.
The manuka honey MGO rating tells you how potent the honey is.
The higher the manuka honey grade, the higher the methylglyoxal content within the honey and the higher the strength and potency.
It is thought that the health benefits are greater the higher the MGO number.
Manuka honey is also rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help to protect the cells from oxidative stress which is the damage caused by free radicals, that can eventually lead to illness and disease.
You can eat manuka honey in the same way that you would regular honey. Mix a spoonful into your smoothie, add as an alternative sweetener to your tea or make a nutritious breakfast by adding it to granola, yogurt or porridge oats.
You could spread it on toast, add it to baking recipes or simply eat it on its own – straight from the spoon!
As well as eating it, you can also use manuka honey on your skin. It can be applied topically and is thought to have some benefits for spot prone skin.
Apply to affected areas or apply a thin layer all over for a nourishing face mask.
Leave the honey on your face for at least 15 minutes, or longer if you have time, before gently washing it off.
You should eat one to two tablespoons of manuka honey each day to get the optimum benefits from it.
