This quick homemade cacao powder hot chocolate is made with just 5 ingredients: plant-based milk, cacao powder, coconut sugar and real vanilla.
It’s a decadent twist on everyone’s favourite warming drink.
The main difference between this recipe and a store-bought hot chocolate powder is that this recipe is made with all-natural ingredients that haven’t been processed.
Here’s how to make our Cacao Powder Hot Chocolate. (Spoiler, it’s super simple!)
250ml plant-based milk
15g coconut sugar
4 tbsp raw cacao powder
1
Add the milk, coconut sugar and vanilla pod (cut lengthways), to a sauce pan and heat over medium-low heat.
2
Bring the pan to a simmer and stir until the coconut sugar has dissolved and milk is infused with the vanilla.
3
Add the cacao powder to a bowl and add a few tablespoons of the hot milk and stir until smooth.
4
Add the cacao paste to the rest of the milk and stir until combined.
5
Remove from the heat and discard the vanilla pod.
6
Whisk the milk (either with a milk frother or a small whisk) until you have a frothy top.
7
Serve while still hot.
8
Top with vegan whipped cream, chocolate shavings or even vegan marshmallows!
Cacao is known as being one of the healthiest foods in the world, thanks to its high levels of antioxidants and minerals. Both copper and magnesium give you energy and also look after your immune system.
