Make traditional Bulgarian yoghurt at home with Freshly Fermented Organic Bulgarian Yoghurt Starter Culture.
This heirloom yoghurt culture contains the traditional cultures used to produce authentic Bulgarian-style yoghurt, including Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus.
Once activated with milk, the culture produces a delicious homemade yoghurt with a naturally thick, creamy texture and distinctive fresh, tangy flavour.
Unlike single-use, direct-set yoghurt starters, this is a reusable heirloom culture. Simply reserve a small amount of yoghurt from each successful batch to culture your next one. With regular use and proper care, a single starter culture can be maintained and used to make homemade yoghurt indefinitely.
The starter is supplied in a convenient freeze-dried format for easy storage before activation. Full step-by-step instructions are included, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced home fermenters.
Use with cow's milk for traditional Bulgarian-style yoghurt, or experiment with suitable goat, sheep or buffalo milk to create different flavours and textures.
Activate the freeze-dried starter according to the included instructions.
Once activated, add the required amount of starter to prepared milk and incubate at the recommended temperature until the yoghurt has set.
After making a successful batch, reserve a small amount of fresh yoghurt to inoculate your next batch.
By repeating this process regularly and caring for the culture correctly, the heirloom starter can continue producing new batches of yoghurt indefinitely.
For best results, always reserve your starter yoghurt before adding fruit, sweeteners, flavourings or other ingredients.
Full activation, temperature, incubation, re-culturing and storage instructions are included.
