How your toilet position could help relieve constipation
Surely there’s only one way to sit on the toilet? No – and there could be a position that’s healthier for you.
Straining too hard or sitting on the toilet for longer than you need could contribute to your risk of piles (haemorrhoids). But don’t worry! Jessica’s 5 minutes is the perfect amount of time. ²
There’s no right or wrong way, but you might find some of these tips useful if you struggle with constipation: ³
- While you’re sitting on the toilet, lean forward with your elbows on your knees
- Your knees should be bent and higher than your hips (it might help to use a small footstool for this)
- Keep your spine straight
- Bulge out your tummy muscles and take a deep breath in. Try not to tighten your stomach
The final say
Ready to put things into practice? It could help keep your bathroom breaks running as smoothly as possible.
Thanks Jessica for helping to break the stigma on gut health!
